PUNK IS CRAP

D.M: An absolute gem of a song, in the opinion of everyone who hears it. Some crap bits here and there if you listen closely. Paul’s castanets clicking away like a bingo-caller with a stutter always puts the smiles on me. The keyboard bits on verses 2 and 4 are also a joy.
Being such a classic, it would have been best placed at the start of the album to get everything off to a big thud.

P.H: In my opinion, this song is absolutely brilliant - but this song states that opinions are crap, thereby rendering this entire sentence redundant. We’re aware that ‘protest songs’ never change anyone’s mind; they merely reinforce the listeners’ stance on issues, and so we tried, with this track, to make a difference via indifference. I adore Doug’s glittering disco-ball guitar bursts and my elephants-falling-down-the-stairs drum rolls. I love this song - and love is NOT crap.
It’s become the custom for albums to clump all their heavy-hitters at the beginning but it’s always been my firm belief to place the absolute classic, the apex, the summit as the finale. It’s the reward for the listeners who have completed the journey. Here it is. Bull’s-eye!
